2024 Excess 14 Pulse Line · "MULAN"

Most people buy a new catamaran and then spend a season finding out what it needs. MULAN's owner did that the hard way — around the planet. She left the factory in October 2024, crossed the Atlantic with the ARC, then circled the globe with the World ARC, finishing in the Caribbean in April 2026. 2024 Excess 14 Pulse Line · "MULAN"

Every teething issue has been found at sea and put right. She's now here in Grenada, sorted, serviced and waiting for her second circumnavigation.

The Boat

A record that speaks for itself. MULAN won several World ARC legs in the catamaran class, including the long Pacific run from the Galápagos to the Marquesas. Along the way she logged a 225-mile day, held around 12 knots for long stretches and surfed to 16.5 knots. That's the Pulse Line package earning its keep: a 22 m mast, longer bowsprit, square-top main and overlapping genoa on VPLP-designed hulls.

Built for the family who sails. Excess drew the 14 for short-handed crews who still want to go quickly. The twin aft helms give you a real feel for the boat, while the low boom keeps sail handling manageable for a couple. Inside, four double cabins each have their own head and shower, and there's a separate skipper's cabin forward to port. Headroom is about 2 m throughout and the joinery is ALPI honey teak.

Off-grid by design. MULAN's owner spent his career in the energy industry, and it shows. 2,000 W of solar, a Watt & Sea hydrogenerator and a 400 Ah lithium bank let her run overnight passages at about 8 knots without starting anything. When you do need more, there's a 10 kVA Fischer Panda, a 2 kVA inverter and a watermaker. Air conditioning, a washer-dryer, a dishwasher and Starlink make long stays at anchor feel like home.

Ready for the next crew. After the rally the owner fixed the remaining items, had the rig checked and replaced the halyards. The engines are on 50/200-hour service intervals. Apart from servicing the liferaft and lifejackets, she's ready to cross an ocean. The owner is open to helping with handover or a familiarisation passage.
